I studied Drama at Royal Holloway, University of London, graduating in 2002. I started my PGCE at Reading University directly after finishing my degree and from there taught Drama in Berkshire. I moved to North London in 2005, where I took up a position as Head of Drama and BTEC Performing Arts in a specialist Arts and Media school. Here I was in the fortunate position to be in partnership with the Almeida Theatre and co-direct two full scale ambitious productions with professionals from the theatre industry.
Following three incredible years in London, my husband and I moved to the Canary Islands where we lived for seven and a half years. I was initially employed as an English teacher there but over the years built the profile of Drama in the school, raising it from a virtually non-existent subject to an important element of the curriculum. Major successes included huge productions involving over 200 students in local professional theatres and a youth theatre with three different branches and over 80 members. I decided to come to the British School of Guangzhou because of the status that creativity has in the school and how it is obviously valued by senior management, but also for the opportunity to experience a different culture. I am excited about directing school productions and working with examination groups to produce the highest quality performances as well as awakening the creative potential in the students here and ensuring that Drama is enjoyed by all!
As well as being a passionate teacher of Drama, I am the mother of two young boys, who will both be enrolling in the school. I am excited about the opportunities that living in China will offer them and I am keen for them to understand what it means to be an international citizen. They both speak Spanish and I hope to soon add Mandarin to their list of languages spoken. When back in the UK, I love catching up with friends and family and filling them in on our travel adventures and experiences. I love photography and would like to study it formally one day. I have an obvious and predictable interest in the theatre and will take any opportunity to see a play or show, particularly at the National Theatre or in the West End. I always feel at home in the theatre!
