Staff Profiles: John Wright

John Wright

Director of Music

Born in Lancashire, I was educated at Chetham's School of Music and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University, where I won two prizes for academic achievement. I went on to study music theory and analysis, specialising in Chopin, at the University of London. A keen pianist, I enjoy performing the music of Chopin and Beethoven most of all. I love to encourage young people to perform to the very best of their abilities in orchestral, choral and chamber music.

I have been Director of Music at two independent schools in the UK, where pupils consistently achieved outstanding music results at IGCSE and in sixth form study. My students have progressed to further education at Oxbridge, European conservatoires and US Ivy League Collages. I'm really looking forward to the opportunities and challenges of this new role in Guangzhou.

I've also been learning Chinese for about a year and hope that my Chinese-speaking pupils will be patient with me!
