Using the English National Curriculum as a guide, students at the Nord Anglia International School of Hong Kong are encouraged to become independent and high-performing learners who take pride in their studies and are motivated to do well.
Key Stage Two consists of Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Pupils are supported in reaching their full potential through an individualised approach to their learning, and progress continues to be closely monitored. High academic standards are maintained through National Curriculum key objectives. Our students follow and receive instruction in these subjects daily. Pupils work in small groups with others of a similar ability, which allows them to be supported or challenged as appropriate.
Learning in Primary Key Stage Two
Using English National Curriculum best practice, we teach Science, History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE), Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Music and Physical Education (PE) through a topic-based approach where learning is integrated into child-centred activities. Teachers ensure that the topic themes are broad and balanced, so as to provide continuity and progression across the year groups.
Teaching through inspiring and exciting topics allows us to present an inquiry-based approach to the curriculum. We encourage pupils to become independent learners and allow them to take ownership of their learning and progress.
We create a learning environment where pupils are pushed to extend and challenge their learning, to analyse and reflect, to take risks and to develop intellectual confidence. We strive to ensure that all children achieve at a high level. We plan learning and development around the individual needs and interests of each child, using modern assessment methods to ensure that every child makes continuous progress.
Learning outside the classroom
At Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong, we provide many opportunities for children to learn beyond the classroom and develop new skills through participation in productions, educational day visits, residential trips, themed days and after-school activities.
Through the formal and informal curriculum, we encourage all children to develop social confidence; to be self-reliant and self-disciplined; and to form positive relationships with students and adults. We help them to become more globally aware and to start to understand the responsibilities of being part of a local or global community.
Key Stage Two prepares and supports our students for the smoothest possible transfer into Year 7 and beyond. Our students should leave their primary years as highly engaged and self-motivated learners, well-equipped with the knowledge, skills and the learning tools needed to achieve their goals and develop as confident global learners.
Please note our curriculum is subject to change as we are constantly updating the contents.
