He then obtained a PGCE in Primary Education (Science Specialism) from University of East Anglia in 2002. In the UK, Mr. Sheehan went on to achieve certification in middle leadership with the National College for School Leadership, becoming a Year 6 and then KS3 leader in his middle school, as well as managing various curriculum leadership roles including IT, Science and MFL.
In 2006, he moved to Hong Kong to become the leader of IT teaching and learning, and cross-curricular IT development at a British international school. He decided to change his career focus in 2011 and specialise in additional needs support teaching, becoming a Dyslexia specialist in the Orton-Gillingham method, whilst also leading the writing team. He has since completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Inclusion & Learner Support (University of Dundee), Postgraduate Certificate in Psychology (University of Hong Kong) and his Masters in Counselling (Monash University).
During the course of his teaching career Mr. Sheehan has taught from Foundation to Year 9 as a class teacher, as a specialist subject teacher, additional needs support teacher and counsellor. He has lead various teams and curriculum subjects and now specialises in the area of pastoral care.
I have been very lucky to be able to lead my career in the direction of pastoral support and additional needs teaching and have worked with children across the school, in a range of context and with a wide variety of special needs; in areas such as literacy, language/communication, Autism, Downs Syndrome, EAL, behaviour and cognition. I have enen lead a team of specialist practitioners in speech pathology, psychology, counselling, education and occupational therapy in Hong Kong, to support children and families whatever their need.
I have been living in Hong Kong for 10 years, married and started a family here. I love to learn, continually strive to develop myself, and hope to be able to inspire the same passion for learning in all the students in my care.
