Staff Profile: Mr. R. Doherty

Mr. R. Doherty

ASN Teacher & Caernarfon House Tutor

Mr Doherty graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a BA (Hons) in Communications. He has been teaching internationally since 2005 in South Korea, China and Hong Kong and holds a LTCL Diploma in TESOL and a PGCE in Secondary Education.

I returned to Asia in 2008 and spent four fantastic years working at Shanghai Rego International School where I was the Head of Secondary EAL. This involved supporting students whose first language was not English in all of their subjects, and also teaching English as an Additional Language at KS3, IGCSE and IB level. After completing my Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), I joined The British International School Shanghai (Puxi) where I taught Geography, at KS3 and IGCSE level, as well as History (KS3) and EAL.

My wife, Katie and I love living in Asia and the travel opportunities that are available from here. Outside of school I enjoy playing and watching most sports, especially football. I am a keen cyclist and enjoy tackling the many mountain biking routes around Hong Kong.
