Mr. Ewan Thomson graduated from Bradford College in 2001 with a BA (Hons) degree in Primary Education. After this he moved to East London where he taught Years 1 and 2 in two different schools. After 5 years in London, Ewan moved to Bangkok to start his international career, teaching Year 2 and also becoming Deputy Head.
For the last 7 years, Ewan has taught at the Nord Anglia school in Bratislava, taking on responsibilities of infant coordinator, and most recently Primary Maths Leader.
I firmly believe that with the right support and encouragement all children are able to achieve, something that is supported by Nord Anglia’s “Be Ambitious” philosophy.
The atmosphere in my classroom is one where children gain confidence to become risk takers, understanding that mistakes are part of learning. Children achieve well when they are given high expectations. I like to provide a challenging but supportive environment where they get to know their own strengths and areas of development.
I have enjoyed running a variety of after-school clubs, including a Maths Problem Solving club. It was great to be able to take some of the children who attended to a local Maths Competition, where they achieved first or second in a variety of categories. Seeing the children become enthusiastic about Maths has been fantastic. Everyone can achieve in Maths, and I enjoy seeing children’s confidence in this area grow.
Three things that I love are travelling, food and landscapes. I also enjoy singing and have enjoyed being a member of a staff choir in Bratislava. We performed small concerts as well as in the Bratislava Christmas Markets, which was a lot of fun if not daunting.
