Staff Profile: Mr. D. Robinson

Mr. D. Robinson

History Teacher, Global Campus Leader & Sandringham House Tutor

Mr Robinson has an MA from the University of Glasgow in English Language and Literature, a PGDE in Secondary English from Strathclyde University and a CELTA ESL qualification with International House. He has nearly ten years of experience in teaching IGCSE English Language and Literature with students attaining impressive results in both. In addition, he has taught courses in IGCSE History and A Level English Language and Literature for four years with great success. He is trained and qualified to teach the IB Diploma for both the English Literature and Theory of Knowledge courses and has experience in MYP English too. As a former Head of Sixth Form and a current house tutor, he has worked closely with students from Years 7 right up to Year 13 on both academic and pastoral matters.

I have worked in several schools in Scotland, China, Japan and Australia, though I spent most of the past decade working at Nord Anglia’s British School of Beijing Shunyi where I have been lucky enough to have encountered some truly amazing and inspirational colleagues and some of friendliest, hardest-working and most thoughtful students I have ever met. I am pleased to say the trend is continuing here.

I am happily married with two small and very cute children who keep me very busy and very happy. When I get the chance, I love hill walking and the outdoors generally, snowboarding, live music and travel. Reading is a passion with special interests in literary non-fiction, poetry and graphic novels. I see encouraging a love of literature as a key part of my role as an English teacher, which led to my setting up Nord Anglia’s Global Library project and supporting our Battle of the Books team. Cinema is a key preoccupation of mine with my Global Cinema group linking our school with film buffs around the world.  As Global Campus Leader, I relish the opportunities it created for linking our students with a truly worldwide network of peers for connectivity, collaboration and conversation.

I find Hong Kong's distinct mixture of Chinese culture with a global perspective truly fascinating and regularly use it to forge links between my English and History lessons and the world beyond the classroom.
