At NAIS, we know it may be daunting to move to a new country and also for your children to move to a new school. We realise that getting to know some parents with children going to the same school helps this transition to a new environment. So whether your family is new to Hong Kong or you are living in Hong Kong, meeting people within our NAIS community is important.
There are lots of initiatives and activities for you to get involved with the school to suit your needs and time. Here are just some of the activities that are happening now to give you a flavour of our NAIS community.
As soon as you join NAIS and with your agreement, you can be included into a Buddy List. Through this list, we will put you in touch with other parents located in the area where you are or will be living, so that you can contact them and meet families with similar-aged children.
Our PTA (Parent Teacher Association) organises regular events to engage parents, children and teachers. There are many activities throughout the year. For example, events have included a Quiz Night evening (for teachers and parents) and a Valentine’s Disco (for our pupils). More events are listed in our parent portal Firefly.
In each class, we have two Class Rep parents who work closely with the PTA and they are in regular contact with all the parents of that class. They organise social events both within and outside the school. As a new parent joining NAIS, you will be put in touch with the Class Rep so that you will be able to meet other parents from your child’s class.
At NAIS we organise regular Parent Workshops on a variety of topics such as how to support your child at home with homework, e-safety, reading and phonics to name but a few. In addition, we invite external education experts to talk to parents.
We have organised some very successful hikes, led by our NAIS Parents. This has given a lot of families a chance to meet others in a less formal setting – as well as finding out more about the wonderful hikes you can go on in Hong Kong’s scenic countryside. Please contact us here for more details.
We are looking into other activities and we welcome any ideas you, as NAIS parents, may have. Please do not hesitate to contact us on email@example.com.
