    Clair Wain

For the past twenty years I have worked in international schools in Africa and Asia, and also in the UK, where I have had the opportunity to take on different roles and to develop my practice as a reflective and effective teacher. My pedagogy is based on the interweaving of theory and practice and I have been inspired by the Reggio Emilia Educational project as well as early childhood pioneers, such as Friedrich Froebel.

I have been teaching for 8 years, however, this was not my first career choice, although it is undoubtedly the best. I completed an honours degree in Psychology and went on to work for the public sector. I then trained and worked as a fitness and sports instructor for some years before deciding that the children I coached were the main reason I kept doing it. From then, I applied for a PGDE which I completed at University of Strathclyde. I spent a year teaching Year 1 before moving into Early Years and discovered my absolute passion for it. In addition to my teaching qualification, I have certificates in sports coaching, teaching English as a foreign language and a range of training in many aspects of early years practice.

After completing Bachelors of Science in Chemistry, I completed my degree in education and started working as a teacher in India. For four years, I worked as a full time science teacher in an elementary school in Madurai, India. I enjoyed working with children to achieve their potential and working together with parents. I later started a small private school in Chennai for three years before moving to Singapore. Since 2015, I have volunteered as a teacher to teach Tamil to young children in Bharathi Kalai Mandram, Houston.

    About you

I came to Houston 11 years ago from England with my family, we moved here for my husband’s job and my son has been at BISH since he was in Year 2.  We live in Katy and enjoy what Houston has to offer but also like to travel to other States. We love to ski, hike and take road trips!

This School is different to all others I have worked at because…

I love the BISH philosophy of allowing the child freedom to explore their interests, manage their time and learn in the way that works best for them. I am especially excited to be working in the early years program where the class size and neighbourhood allows this to happen and gives the children a wonderful foundation for learning.

I have a BSc Pharmacology from Kings College, London. I spent my early career in sales and marketing but have most recently volunteered at BISH 2 days a week in year 3. I have loved the experience of watching the children grow and develop, and feel passionate about the way BISH approaches teaching and learning to help the children thrive. Previoulsy, I also volunteered at a local elementary school, involved in the reading program, 1:1 with a second grade child, and class reading in Kindergarten and Eureka science.
