Staff Profile: Nicola Phillips

Nichola Phillips Year 1 Primary Class Teacher

Early Years Phase Leader and Nursery Class Teacher

Teaching is my passion.  I am a very enthusiastic and creative teacher who strives to accelerate children’s learning.  Teaching for me is a privilege, where I can make a difference to the lives of the children in my class and contribute positively to the school community.  I constantly seek to achieve the best from my children, however big or small that achievement, and celebrate their success inclusively with their parents/carers.  I have developed my career as an EYFS and Key Stage 1 teacher in a very diverse Inner City school in London.  During this time I was the Literacy and Early Years Leader, which gave me the opportunity to implement several creative and structured schemes which significantly improved results in reading and writing across the school.

I am a dedicated, hard-working and ambitious individual who enjoys challenges and learning new skills in order to further my professional development.  Being a teacher in an international school is something new and exciting for me.  I feel that I will bring a wealth of teaching experiences and ideas, and in turn gain an invaluable opportunity of working within an excellent teaching and learning setting, that is the British International School of Houston.

I love the outdoors especially in the summer, and enjoy keeping fit and healthy.   My favourite form of exercise involves being active with friends or family whether it be games in the park, on the beach, or doing yoga or dance classes with a group of friends.  I also enjoy running and have taken part in two London half marathons to raise money for charity.  Lately, I have been interested in taking up golf and plan to start this whilst in Houston.  My other passion is travelling and exploring new cities, fashions, cultures and foods.  I have organised and arranged trips throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North America, the Caribbean and Australasia.  This will be my first time living in another country and I am very excited to discover everything it has to offer!
