Growing up with a close family member who is profoundly deaf made me very aware of communication needs and led to me studying for a degree in Human Communication and Communication Disorders, alongside Linguistics. I volunteered for a year in Romania with children and young people with a wide range of learning needs. This confirmed my desire to train as a teacher and I completed a PGCE in Primary Education. I worked for several years in primary schools in Hampshire and Surrey before my husband’s work took us overseas. Living in different countries provided me with a great opportunity to experience different educational settings and I was fortunate to be able to volunteer in the schools my children have attended in various locations.
My children have been attending BISH since our arrival in Houston in 2014 and I was impressed from the beginning by how welcomed we were as a family and how the teachers took so much time to get to know my children as individuals. We have felt very supported as a family and I was impressed by the commitment and dedication of the staff. When the opportunity arose to work at BISH, I applied immediately.
My husband, children and I enjoy exploring the countries that we live in. We love being outdoors so we are currently trying to visit as many National Parks in the USA as we can. I also love running and Pilates.
This School is different to all others I have worked at because…
The facilities are amazing and spacious and I feel part of a positive and committed team where people have made me feel very welcome. The mix of cultures and experiences are fascinating and I enjoy hearing about where other teachers and children have come from.
