After completing my PGCE in 1996, I gained over 10 years of experience in the UK teaching across the primary age range. I have taught in a variety of schools in England and Scotland, including a large school in London and a tiny village school in Aberdeenshire.
Following this I embarked on a number of overseas adventures: accompanying my husband overseas to Denmark, Malaysia and then the US, as well as starting a family. I took the opportunity to take a career break, travel and appreciate quality time with my two little girls.
Now, having lived in Houston for two years, I am thoroughly enjoying being back in the classroom. It is great to share my passion for learning with all the children at the British International School of Houston.
My bachelor’s degree was in Environmental Science and I continue to have an interest in science and the environment. After many years of relocating, I am now looking forward to spending some of my holidays at my new home and improving my garden. The plants seem to grow a lot faster than they did in Scotland! I am also a keen photographer. I consider myself very lucky to have lived in New York City where everyday was another photo opportunity.
What the students say about me...
"Mrs McMichael is a great teacher because she teaches us fun stuff."
"She is very creative and cool."
"She is helpful."
This school is different to all others I have worked at because…
The sense of community at this school is great. Despite the fact we have all come to Houston from all over the world, we all seem to make lifelong friends: children, teachers and parents alike. The children are always so keen to learn and are just the nicest in every way!
