I have developed a passionate interest in the use of metacognitive approaches to help students achieve a sense of security and confidence in themselves and therefore their learning. Focussing and training their thought processes, language skills and a system of self-reflection, so that they better understand their emotions and thoughts throughout their learning. The decision to come to BISH was an easy one. It became very clear that my approach to learning fit nicely with the mission and ethos of my new school.
I come to Houston with my wife Marlo, my daughter Kera and our Greek dog Twinkle. We are very excited to be starting our new chapter in the Lone Star State! Whilst theater is still a big passion of mine, I also enjoy keeping up with the latest films and books and discovering new sounds by attending live concerts of a variety of genres. I also enjoy singing whether in the school choir or recently in an unofficial faculty rock band. Sports, both as a spectator and as a participant are a vital aspect of maintaining a balanced outlook in my life, not only physically but mentally.
What the students say about me
“Mr Hazard has a very good strategy for teaching; especially maths because if there is something wrong he will ALWAYS help you fix it.”
“Mr Hazard does funny voices and thinks of fun games to do with the subjects we are learning.”
“I like him because he is kind to others and he always challenges me to improve.”
This school is different to all others I've worked at because...
The fantastic new facilities and progressive use of technology makes BISH an exciting place to be heading into the future. Having heard about the variety of projects and endeavours the students at BISH are involved in I am really looking forward to collaborating with them and my new colleagues to make learning come alive. My background is in theatre so the Juilliard performing arts programme and brand new theatre facilities look amazing. I have also never worked at a school with its own pool, and that can never be a bad thing in my book!
