I graduated from Plymouth University in 2004 with a B.A (Hons) in English, before completing my P.G.C.E at Roehampton University in 2007.

I started teaching at Rosebery School for Girls in Surrey in 2007, before being appointed Deputy Head of House in 2009 and Second in Department for English in 2010. After 4 successful years in these posts, I accepted the position of an English teacher at the British International School of Houston prior to becoming the Leader of Learning for the department in 2012. America was always a country that I had harboured a desire to work in and when I was informed of the calibre of the staff and students alike who I would be working with, my decision became an easy one.

I have been at the British International School of Houston since 2011, when my wife, Ms Capper, was offered a job here as Teacher of Geography/Humanities. After meeting with the Head Teacher and Deputy Head, I was subsequently offered the role of Learning Resource Centre Manager (or Secondary Librarian, as it’s comparably known) – which I was very happy to accept. Over my time here I have worked to strengthen the library’s collections, and its utility within the school, and I look forward to continuing this process over the coming years.

    Teacher of English

    Amy Ruppert

Moving into my 5th year of teaching I am looking forward to taking on the challenge of a new environment and international edge. I come from a large comprehensive school in rural Suffolk in England, so I am excited by the diversity a city like Houston has to offer.

Having studied both Film and English at University, I have taught Media and English language/ Literature across all secondary key stages 3-5, with particular success at A level in literature due to a passion for Gothic literature and debating. In my previous school I founded the debating society, competing in regional competitions with Key Stage 5 students and public speaking in year 9-11. I am excited about bringing these skills to Houston. I am passionate about Shakespeare and language and hope to ignite this passion in my students and encourage them to love learning.
