I got my Bachelors degree in European History from the University of San Francisco, originally intending to become a professor in Greco-Roman history. Life had another thing planned for me; however, and an internship at a local high school’s media center set me on a different path. I made the decision to get my Masters in Library and Information Science, specializing in technology and databases, and found myself back in my home state of Texas, working as a Technology Specialist librarian at Houston Public Library. There I had the opportunity to teach technology skills to staff and the public, conduct a seminar on emerging apps at the annual Texas Library Association conference, and become familiar with a wide variety of databases and research tools.

I qualified at Robert Gordon's Univeristy, Aberdeen and have been a UK Registered General Nurse for 30 years specializing in Burns, Orthopaedics, Medicine and Surgery. My biggest achievement was being actively involved in the Piper Alpha Disaster and leading the Quality Assurance group for the Surgical Directorate at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.  I started a Self Help Group for people with facial disfigurement called “About Face” which is still active to this day. Other achievements include being responsible for setting up the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary “Tissue Viability Group” which ultimately increased awareness and significantly reduced the number of patients requiring invasive pressure sore reconstruction.

From the first moment I can remember, I have known I would work in the education field; long gone are the days of lining my dolls up to hold “school” in my bedroom.  I began as a teaching assistant at a prestigious private preschool when my own children were small and attended their program. This eventually led me to obtaining my Child Development Associate and Director’s License where I spent 21 years educating and nurturing young children in many different roles; lastly as the Assistant Director of the program. I came to the British International School of Houston because I felt it was a place I could actively continue my journey in the education field and felt BISH offered the educational, enriching environment I hold near to my heart.
