Rhett Butler Hunter: Staff Profile

Rhett Butler Hunter | NIS international school Jakarta

Primary 1 & 2 Teacher | Service Learning Coordinator

Rhett Hunter joined NIS Jakarta in 2006. From 2017, he is teaching the Primary 1 & 2 class and will be the school’s Service Learning Coordinator.

Biography

Having received his Master’s in Applied Linguistics in 1996, Rhett spent three years as an English lecturer at Sedaya International University in Kuala Lumpur before taking on the role of Head of the English Department at the Japanese Jakarta school in 2004. He joined NIS in 2006, first as Head of the EAL Department then as an Early Primary teacher. 

In 2012, Rhett received his Early Years Montessori Diploma and has worked with classes ranging from Kindergarten 2 to Primary 4.  In 2015, Rhett introduced a Service Learning Programme to NIS - a form of project-based learning in which academic goals are accomplished through community service.

Rhett has been living in Indonesia for more than 20 years, but spends his holidays back in New York City with his family and friends.
