Originally from Turkey, New York City-based artist Burcu Avsar (also known as Buj), creates arresting still life photography with a narrative twist. She graduated from Film and Media Studies in Istanbul and began her career as an advertising art producer. Buj fell in love with the creative side of the industry and decided to make the leap to study photography at the International Center of Photography in New York. From Chase Bank to Martha Stewart magazine, she has created surprising stories around disparate objects. She was nominated at PDN's 30 New and Emerging photographers in 2007 for her talent. Her art work has been featured in Photo District News and her images from her on going series “Color Studies” was chosen for the Foto Week DC “Come Together” a Beatles-Themed Exhibition.
Buj shares the space with her partner, photographer Zach DeSart. The duo live in Brooklyn with their five year old son and are excited to be a part of WCLA. Their work can be seen on their website at www.burcuavsar.com & www.zachdesart.com
