Katie Down

Music Therapist

Katie Down MM, MMT, MT-BC, LCAT is a licensed music psychotherapist, composer, performer and sound designer for theatre, film, and dance. She travels extensively creating workshops in improvisation, collaboration and performance techniques throughout Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and South Africa focusing on the idea that children have the key to divine play! Her therapeutic work incorporates mindfulness meditation, talk therapy, sound healing, and music improvisation with adults, children, and families dealing with challenges of depression, anxiety, loss, trauma, and neurological challenges such as stroke and traumatic brain injury. Through compassionate support, body-mind awareness, and a non-judgmental approach, Katie helps her clients develop their personal strengths and insights, while gaining tools for understanding, accepting, and letting go in order to open the channels to optimal wellness and joy. When we open our creative channels through deep listening practices and music improvisation, we can access emotions quickly so that energy trapped in our bodies by trauma and anxiety can be effectively released; and along with talk therapy, the journey into the music can be a guide to recovery.
