The Benefits of Boarding – Exam Preparation

For our Year 13 students, there are just a few months to go before their final IB Diploma exams. These students have been working hard on the Diploma course for almost two years and they are aiming to get the best possible grades in their finals – and then places at their first choice universities after the summer.

Many of our Diploma students are boarders here in Thailand. We spoke to one long-standing Regents’ boarder, Gor, to find out how he feels his exam preparations are benefitting from boarding school life. Here’s what he had to say:

  • All students in Years 12 and 13 have single study bedrooms, which means everyone on the IB Diploma course has a personal area without distractions, like noise. It really allows you to focus.
  • Many trips are available to the boarders at the weekends. However the boarding school staff are very understanding and allow IB Diploma students to remain on campus and study.
  • Boarding school life helps you to be disciplined and well-organized. Most activities have exact time frames, so too do the study sessions, which allows you to manage your time and plan ahead.
  • There are very few chores around the boarding house (e.g. you don't have to iron or wash your own clothes, go to buy things from a shop for the household, etc.). Everything you need is close at hand, so you can dedicate much more time to study
  • Quite a few teachers are available on different days of the week during homework time in the evenings, ready to help out if needed. You don’t get that if you’re a day student.
