Work began this month on a thorough refurbishment of the boys’ and girls’ boarding houses at Regents International School Pattaya. The initial 20 million THB investment will be completed by the end of August and will offer an even more comfortable home-from-home for the school’s 100 boarders, who are drawn from across Thailand and around the world.

The priority is to ensure that the bedrooms are as welcoming and comfortable as possible for our boarders, some of whom are as young as 7. Made-to-measure beds, wardrobes, desks, bedside cabinets, mirrors and shelving units are being made especially for the school and fitted into 94 bedrooms.

A series of ‘common rooms’ or lounges, where the students spend time relaxing together, are being refitted with new kitchens, dining areas and soft furnishings. Computer workstations will be installed to help students to keep in touch with friends and family. New televisions, microwaves and fridges in each common room will provide boarders with all their home comforts.

Both boarding houses are being repainted in white, with roller blinds in all bedrooms, common rooms and lobby areas, to give the houses a light and spacious feel. Dark grey and red soft furnishings and light ash wood furniture will complete the renovation.

The school’s business manager, Kirsty Paiboontanasin commented: “Regents became a member of the Nord Anglia Education family of schools in 2012. This has led to a significant increase in investment in our facilities: by the end of this year alone we will have spent over 80 million THB on enhancing the buildings and grounds and Health & Safety of the school. Membership also gives us 26 sister schools around the world with which to share inspiration. That includes Collège Champittet and Collège Alpin International Beausoleil in Switzerland, two of the most prestigious boarding schools in the world.”

Head of Boarding, Steve Rand commented: “The comfort and security of our boarders is our first concern. Parents trust us to look after their children when they are away from home and my residential staff and I take great pleasure in doing that to the very best of our ability. The renovation of the boarding houses is important, as part of our constant efforts to make Regents a happy and healthy environment for these children to grow up in.”
