The Poetry Revision Retreat provides students with a moment of reprieve, an opportunity to commune with nature’s glories, before being chained to their desks and relentlessly blasted with air-con.

Surrounded by the ancient rainforests of Khao Chamao, students participated in a range of workshops, activities and performances that helped them to learn the poems they will need to know for their Group 1 Literature Paper 2.  This began on Friday night with our crepuscular poetry recital, where students and teachers performed various poems by the flickering of candlelight.

We started early on Saturday morning with a focus on planning and essay writing skills. Higher Level, Standard Level, Korean and self-taught students worked collaboratively to promote new ideas and to develop extended answers to examination questions using quotations they had found in the preceding fun ‘Treasure Hunt’. Hard work was rewarded by a walk up to the waterfall and a refreshing dip.
Sunday morning started with Poetry Speed Dating which required a deep knowledge of the poems, but proved to be very entertaining at the same time, and then on to the final Paper 1 activity which involved looking at a new poem and collaboratively writing sections of a response.
The English Department hereby wish the students every success in their forthcoming IB examinations.
