The International Baccalaureate in Thailand: Regents' students sample life on the IB Diploma

With over 80 students currently in Years 12 and 13, Regents International School Pattaya’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma programme is the most vibrant on the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand. It’s popularity allows the school to offer a wide combination of subject options and also gives the students a ‘critical mass’ of peers with whom to share ideas, revise and debate.

It’s now the turn of the current Year 11 students to decide whether to follow in the footsteps of the older students and join next year’s IB Diploma Programme (subject to them reaching the necessary grades in their recent IGCSE examination, of course). To help with the decision-making, Secondary School staff are running a four-day ‘Life on the IB Course’ trial for students who want to know more. The students can join a series of taster IB lessons, including Environmental Systems & Societies, Economics, Art, ‘Theory of Knowledge’ and more.

Head of Year 11, Carolyn Neylon, has been responsible for organizing this year’s trial programme. “The IB Diploma programme is the best possible entry route to universities around the world and, although it’s impossible to give our students a full sense of the course in just four days, it does provide them with a glimpse into the challenges and enjoyment of studying at that level. When you then add in the careers and higher education events we run each year, I feel we are preparing Regents’ students very well for the future.”
