Culture in and around Pattaya and Rayong Part of the impetus of moving to a new place may be the desire to immerse yourself in another culture - to find out about its history and its people. The Eastern Seaboard of Thailand has ample opportunity to do that. From language and culture classes to architectural landmarks, opportunities are abound in this part of the world.

Thailand has a rich cultural heritage dating back hundreds of years, many temples and structures have stood for quite some time and are a must-see while you are in this part of the world.

 

Religious belief plays a massive part in how Thai’s live their life and many of their national holidays are steeped in religious and historical significance. Buddhist holidays are often wonderful, moving occasions with much of the celebration held at local temples. One holiday that is unlike any other, anywhere in the world is the Thai new year, Songkran. Also known as the water festival, the water signifies the cleansing of everything to start new again.

Held over three days in April, Songkran turns the streets into a waterpark. Everyone is involved in drenching the population of Pattaya via water pistols, water bombs and other flying projectiles. It makes for a great week. 

The Sanctuary of Truth is Pattaya’s benchmark for temples in the area but there are so many more incredible sights nearby. A visit to a major temple is a must in Thailand and the Eastern Seaboard, although not known for its cultural attractions, has a wealth of different locations to explore with the family.

The Thai language is incredibly unique with its own alphabet and complex sounds making it a challenging but worthwhile task to try and understand. There are many language courses within the city at very reasonable prices. Many of these language courses have a culture component as well so you are able to learn about the history of Thailand and how this diverse and friendly people came to live in one of the most beautiful and popular areas of the world.
