LAMDA Examiners Visit Regents International School Pattaya

Part of being at such a widely-renowned school in Thailand, with an excellent performing arts department, allows us to have external examiners from the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) visit our campus.

  • Drama Production at Regents International School Pattaya

At present, 65 of our best performing arts students are taking various exams - ranging from speech to drama. Most of the students taking the tests are in the secondary school, but remarkably the youngest is in Year 5.

LAMDA is an internationally acclaimed academy that has a reputation for excellence wherever they go. It complements the IGCSE and International Baccalaureate (IB) courses well and is recognized by the Undergraduate Courses at University (UCAS) organisation.

Drama teacher Mr. Mike Thomas says that understanding what it takes to do well in LAMDA examinations bodes well for students in the long run.

“Recently in the drama department we had an in-house debate with a number of teams. One of the teams had members with LAMDA experience. They won because of the skills they had learnt from taking LAMDA exams and by practicing those skills”.

Regents International School Pattaya is the only school on the Eastern Seaboard that hosts the examiners. Students from other international schools in the area are forced to come to Regents’ - such as our facilities are for hosting them.

One Year 12 student Travis, is taking all three possible exams: music, theatre and speech as well as being a finalist for the Global Orchestra. He is a perfect example of the amount of exposure to high quality assessment Regents’ students get – and how that creates exceptional performing arts pupils.

Head of Drama, Nick Lewis knows from his many years’ experience teaching that LAMDA examinations help students to develop a strong speaking voice and good memory skills.

“The examinations provide students with the opportunity to develop a clear speaking voice, positive body language and self-confidence by exploring different uses of spoken English. This is not only useful skills in drama but for any career path they choose.”
