The students were selected following a challenging inter-house mathematics competition earlier in the year.  41 other teams from schools across the region converged to Vietnam to compete in a wide variety of challenges, stretching all our students to the very brink of their mathematical understanding.

The competition began with students sitting a one hour individual competition. Following this, our group split into two teams to complete a variety of puzzle rounds, before heading to the Binh Quoi resort to take part in the hotly contested Math Trail. We were then treated to a spectacular dinner before heading back to the hotel for the evening.

The next day began with another raft of puzzle rounds, including a mathematical take on the well-known crossword, but where the across clues and down clues were split up amongst the group, and communication could only take place through an intermediary teacher.

The final afternoon saw us visit the host school to complete a number of practical mathematics puzzles, and the grand finale was a fantastic mathematical relay race, quite a sight to behold with nearly 200 competitors!

Our students, despite intense pressure and competition, performed extremely well, with our two teams placing 14th and 17th out of 41. In addition, alongside the main team competition was the “Long Term” round, another set of fiendishly difficult puzzles that students tackled in groups mixed with students from the other schools whenever they could find a spare moment. We were very proud to see our very own Gun and his group take the gold medal in this event!

Congratulations to all our competitors, and we would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the ABC International School for hosting such a spectacular event. We look forward to more Mathematical mayhem next year!
