The world’s biggest campus – a glorious opportunity, not a terrifying prospect

The world’s biggest campus – a glorious opportunity, not a terrifying prospect

The world’s biggest campus. What would that even look like? I envisage a sprawling, metropolis-like school grounds and students having to be tracked by GPS. “What’s that, Stuart? You’re looking for the art department? That’s on the 17th floor of C Block in Sector 4.”

The world’s biggest campus – a glorious opportunity, not a terrifying prospect A big idea called Global Campus is offering some truly extraordinary opportunities to our students says Iain Blaikie, Principal of Regents International School Pattaya

The world’s biggest campus. What would that even look like? I envisage a sprawling, metropolis-like school grounds and students having to be tracked by GPS. “What’s that, Stuart? You’re looking for the art department? That’s on the 17th floor of C Block in Sector 4.”

The world’s biggest campus is essentially what we’ve got right here at Regents International School Pattaya, but it’s not a physical space. It’s a big idea called Global Campus that has come to fruition and now offers our students a constantly growing network of pathways that will lead them beyond their immediate classroom and out into the world beyond.

Global Campus Worldwide provides some truly inspirational opportunities for young people at Regents to grow, like the recent trip to Tanzania, last summer’s Global Orchestra in Manhattan and this summer’s Leadership Academy at the University of Oxford. It also includes local and regional expeditions and activities, like those which take place as part of our annual Round Square Weeks (you can see how much the Secondary School students have to look forward to by opening this year's Round Square Week brochure).

Global Campus Online is a unique learning environment in which Regents’ students, along with 33,000 others from the 41 Nord Anglia Education (NAE) schools elsewhere in the world, can create content, work with invited experts and engage in debates – all within a secure and moderated online environment. This year alone, Regents students have won a creative writing competition; gone head-to-head with other NAE schools in the Global Debating League; and are now focusing on the Shakespeare Global Theatre Challenge.

Global Campus in School provides activities and competitions which encourage students to work together to find solutions to real challenges. Last week’s Bucket Drumming Challenge was a beautiful example of what we can do – just look at the smiles on everyone's faces.

Far from being terrified by our ‘world’s biggest campus’, with the Global Campus in place I am truly excited about the prospects for this and future generations of students at Regents International School Pattaya. And because Global Campus engages students beyond the classroom and the school day, it’s a perfect fit for a boarding school like ours.
