Sixty Seconds with... Osman Tatrokov (Year 12)

  • 2016 Boarder

What is your name?
Osman Tatrokov

In what year did you join Regents?
Technically I joined Regents in the very last week of Year 8, but officially I was announced as a student at the start of Year 9.

Where were you before joining Regents?
Before coming to the school, I lived in Pattaya for about a year and I was studying using the Internet. Then, my parents found out about Regents and my entire family decided that it would be a great idea for me to study here.

Are you a day-student or a boarder?
I have been a Boarder since Year 9, when I joined Regents (in 2013).

What year group are you currently in?
I’m currently a Year 12 IB Diploma Student, succeeding through the challenges IB brings.

If you had to choose five words to best describe your life Regents, what would they be?
Success, Opportunity, Freedom, Confidence, Stability

What are you enjoying the most at the moment?
The first aspect I enjoy the most at the moment is the subjects that I am studying at IB. I am very glad to be an IB Student, since it gives you an opportunity to actually study the field that you are interested in (in my case, for example, it is the sciences that I’m studying at Higher Level). Furthermore, I’m really enjoying being taught by my teachers because they are really great at explaining the syllabus, allowing me to do well in my practice exams. To be honest, I enjoy everything that is happening at Regents since we are led by such a great Senior Management Team and our great Principal. I am thankful for them bringing so many great new things into our school and making sure that everyone is safe and happy.

Describe your typical day at Regents.
My typical day at Regents starts at 6:30 AM when I wake up in the Boarding House. After spending about 45 minutes preparing myself I make my way to the canteen where I enjoy breakfast (pancakes with maple syrup in particular) and make my way to the IB Suite where I get about 15 minutes to look over or finish my homework before going to my Tutor’s room. After that I go to my lessons where I enjoy studying different subjects ranging from literature to natural sciences and mathematics. After the end of school, I either go to the After School Activities or straight to the Boarding House where I am welcomed by happy-looking Mr. James or Mr. Dean and enjoy some rest for an hour before starting doing my homework or extra studying (either by myself or with a school teacher). After that at 6:00 PM I have a really nice dinner and then I return to my room where I usually spend additional time self-studying before going to bed. In the end, at about 10 PM I’m going to bed, anticipating what the next day is preparing to offer me.

Describe what you most enjoy about being a member of the boarding community.
One of the things I enjoy the most being a member of the Boarding community is the convenience, since I literally live on school campus, allowing me to easily interact with the activities which are happening in school and get in touch with my teachers. Furthermore I also enjoy the meals Boarding provides in the mornings and the evenings as they give me a big range of food to choose from, allowing me to fill myself with energy before and after the school. I like the trips and events the Boarding organizes each week, such as the trips to Central Festival every Friday and all sorts of trips happening on Saturdays. Finally, I really like how the Boarding staff, Mr. Rand, Mr. James and Mr. Dean run the Boarding House, always with a smile on their faces, they allow a lot of great things to happen and prevent anything that can cause disturbance which I am very thankful to them for.

Describe the most memorable thing that has happened to you at this school.
The most memorable thing that happened to me at Regents was my victory on winning the Head Students positions in both the entire Secondary School and the St. George’s Boarding House. I was nervous during the campaign in both elections, however I believe that through my hard work and belief in myself as well as support from my friends and the school staff I managed to be elected to these two responsible positions. I felt so great on the day when I won the Secondary School’s election, that I ended up ordering 16 pizzas that I was happy to evenly share among Boys and Girl’s boarding houses to celebrate the victorious results of the election.

What are your hopes for the future?
I haven’t yet decided on the university I wish to attend in the future, however I have certainly decided that I will attend medical school and I decided for myself that I wish to become a surgeon in the future. Since starting studying Biology in Year 11, I have observed my developing interest in oncology (study of cancer) and I dream of contributing to curing cancer in the future. I believe that doctor would be a great occupation for me, as I believe that as a Global Citizen by being a doctor I will be able to work for the benefit of humanity and save lives, which I personally believe will be a great boost to my moral self-esteem.
