From Early Years (Kindergarten) through to the end of the IB Diploma, we provide students with a range of age- and curriculum-appropriate trips and school activities which are designed to enhance their understanding of the topics which they are studying. These are often day-trips, but from Year 4 upwards we introduce residential trips, where students stay away from home for one or more nights. The aims of these residential trips are:
- To develop students' independence, self-reliance and self-confidence
- To promote a wide range of friendship groups
- To develop children’s ability to meet different challenges in a positive and resilient way
- To take children out of their ‘comfort-zone’ in a safe and carefully monitored environment
- To provide real-life, practical and fun learning experiences that cannot be replicated in a classroom setting and which link directly to curriculum content.
We are a member of the Round Square organisation and as such each year we also run a series of trips and activities in Thailand and overseas which are designed to expand students' understanding of the six ‘pillars’ of the Round Square: Internationalism, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leaderships and Service.
As a boarding school, we also organise education and recreation trips for our boarding students at the weekend and over some holidays.
The following is a very small selection of the outstanding trips and school activities which our students undertake over the course of an academic year:
- A four-night trip to Chiang Mai to meet the people of the hill tribes and also study World War 2 along the River Kwai (Year 6)
- A three-day residential trip to study the rainforest of Khao Yai National Park (Chonburi), including jungle trekking, camping and a night safari (Year 4)
- A three-night residential barge trip to study the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ayutthaya near Bangkok, once the capital of the Kingdom of Siam (Year 5)
- A five-day non-residential programme around Pattaya, Chonburi and Rayong, which includes an exploration of coral reef ecology and conservation (Year 7)
- A CAS (Creativity, Action, Service) Challenge on the island of Koh Chang in the south east of Thailand (Year 12, IB Diploma)
HEALTH & SAFETY ON TRIPS
- All school activities undergo a rigorous risk assessment before being confirmed as suitable for our students.
- The nearest hospitals and medical facilities are identified and their contact details carried by all trip leaders.
- Comprehensive first aid kits are carried on each trip.
- At least one bi-lingual staff member accompanies every trip to provide translations when needed.
- All staff members are trained each year in Emergency First Response procedures
