As a school with 40 nationalities there are all manner of languages spoken within our school and students are given the option to specialise in a number of them throughout their time with us.
From the very youngest age, in our Early Years programme and Key Stage 1, students of all nationalities are given an excellent grounding in the English language. Learning, playing and socialising in English helps them to become bilingual, along with their native tongue, from a very young age. Which isn’t to forget that our school is based in the Czech Republic: all of our students will learn basic Czech during Early Years and Key Stage 1 to get them ready for life in Prague, whilst our Czech students benefit from more detailed and in-depth Czech lessons, specifically designed for native Czech speakers.
At Key Stage 2 and onwards, as well as continuing to excel in their English language skills, our students are given the option to take on more languages, initially choosing one of either French or German, whilst Czech students can continue their Czech learning.
When students reach age 11, in Year 7, they can choose to take another modern foreign language, choosing one or two of French, Spanish or German, and are encouraged to continue you doing so throughout the rest of their time with us, through the IGCSE and IB Diploma years.
Whilst Czech students will continue to learn Czech during their whole time at our school, eventually matriculating through the Czech system with our Czech programme, they are also given the option to take on additional languages, choosing from French, Spanish or German at age 11 and eventually taking the opportunity to study two of these, additional to English and Czech, during their IB Diploma years. With specialised teachers in each of our modern foreign languages, students can take advantage of a wealth of experience and expertise from teachers who themselves have lived in the country of the language they teach.
From learning basic vocabulary at an early age, to perfecting grammar, syntax and pronunciation as they prepare to sit their IB Diploma exams, languages are interwoven into all aspects of life at our school, creating a vibrant international community and opening many doors in students’ future careers.
