Director of Music
Phillip started on his Music pathway when he was 7 years old learning to play the cornet (very similar to a trumpet but a little smaller), with his father teaching him to play at first. After a few years, he joined what was the ‘family band’, the local village Brass band and, at 10, had already played in the Royal Albert Hall in London. Playing the instrument came very easily to Phillip and he quickly passed Grades 4 and 5 and was then asked to Audition for the Royal College of Music as a Junior college student; this meant leaving home near Salisbury at 5am each Saturday! At 18 he auditioned for Music College and secured places at Royal College, Royal Welsh College, Scottish Academy and finally the Royal Academy where he ended up studying for four years obtaining a 1st Class Honours Degree.

Head of Whole School Art
Art has always been Dafydd’s great passion; after college he decided to explore the creative world of theatre by studying scenography at Bretton Hall College. He graduated from Leeds University with a BA hons in Fine Art Sculpture and began working as a freelance photographer before entering teaching. After working as a LSA and co-running an inclusion unit in a British state school, Dafydd decided to explore the life of the expat teacher. After sitting his PGCE at Buckingham University, he began working at the British School of Beijing were he fell in love with China. His passion for China brought him to Shanghai and the new and exciting challenges that come with working for a leading international school such as NAIS Pudong.
Teacher of Art and Design Technology
Charline came to us from an Academy in West Sussex, UK, where she was Subject Leader for Art, Design and Technology. As well as teaching across all areas of Art and Design Technology, Charline played a key role in developing Pedagogy at the school. Here she helped to develop assessment models and teacher development as a coach.
Quality assessment and feedback is what Charline believes really allows students to thrive. Through intense planning and high expectations, Charline aims to provide the resources for students to be engaged and independent learners in her classroom, who are determined to succeed.
