Music is an essential piece of all children's learning playing an important role alongside language development, therefore we offer structured music lessons start for our students from Pre-Nursery onwards. These lessons are fun an interractive, providing students with a strong grounding in the principles of music. Timetabled Music classes continue all the way through the school, with students from Year 1 to Year 9 following our bespoke Juilliard music curriculum, based on a core repertoire of specially selected works and with a focus on developing students' cultural literacy. Many of our students also choose Music for IGCSE or IB study.
Individual music teachers attend school throughout the day to teach individual instruments and voice. Lessons are available in a full range of instruments, teaching a vast repertoire of musical genres. Visit the page link below to find out more.
Dedicated practice rooms in our Performing Arts Centre are used for the individual lessons and are available for students to use at any time and many of our students form bands to play in local contests or for their peers during lunchtimes.
Musical performances occur throughout the year from the Early Years stage performances to the IB recitals that form part of the final examinations for these talented students.
We are also keen to expose our student musicians, groups and choirs to be involved in external performances and receive many requests each year for our students to perform at events around Shanghai. Our students have performed for the UK Prime Minister, The Right Honourable David Cameron MP during his Shanghai visit, as well as at many major hotels for their Christmas Tree lighting ceremonies and other community events.
