Week Beginning 10 April 2017

Welcome back after a wonderful spring holiday. We hope you are all feeling rested and ready for the term ahead!

MESSAGES

  • On Monday 17 April the Fox and Panther cubs will be visiting the local fire station. The Wolf and Meerkat cubs will also be enjoying this exciting experience on Tuesday 18 April. Please let your teacher know if you would like to volunteer. 
  • As the weather changes and becomes warmer, children will be using more water. Please send spare clothes so they can change into dry clothes.
  • The librarians are in school until 4:30 on Mondays and Tuesdays, if you want to come and borrow books, you can set up a family account.

FOX AND PANTHER CLASSES

Our Fire station trip is fast approaching so we will be talking to the children about the people around us who help us. Fire fighters all around the world help to keep us safe but who else helps us? Can you think of anyone in your community that helps to keep us safe? To further develop this, children will use our fire station role play area in the classroom and help develop other areas of the unit, thinking about what we have learned- maybe we will have a doctor’s surgery or a school?

The plants we bought have blossomed in our garden! The children are taking real pride over the care and responsibility it is taking to ensure they grow. The children are working together to think about how we can move water from one area to another and have even used the bikes to help move water from one place to the next. The vegetables are also growing well. We hope to soon have some cucumbers to add to our vegetable patch!

Another real interest this week has been the tadpoles. We have seen some wonderful mark making and observational drawings. What will they turn into? How will they grow?

MEERKAT AND WOLF CLASSES

The children have loved making outdoor dens this week and have had lovely tea parties inside them. Following the Dutch trip to visit the Doctor’s surgery the children have been re-enacting doctors and hospitals with a special focus on x-rays. We will develop this theme of ‘People Who Help Us’ by introducing the theme of ‘Fire Fighters’. The children will be involved in helping transform the outdoor area into a Fire station and we will use water play to put out pretend fires. The children will also watch cartoons like ‘Fireman Sam’.  In phonics, we will listen to environmental sounds and ask the children to identify them, e.g. fire engines, water coming out of a hose etc.

Due to the great interest in our class tadpoles we will share stories of the life cycle of a frog with the children and then ask them to sequence pictures to show the process of tadpole to frog.

The children loved International Week where they could talk about their home foods and customs. We will develop this with the children by asking them to share their holiday news and see if they have visited any other countries.

Deze week starten de peuters en de kleuters met een nieuw thema `Wat een kunst!`.  Aan de hand van het boek `De stip` buigen we ons deze week over schilderkunst.  We schilderen zwarte stippen, groene stippen, paarse  stippen... Wat is  jouw favoriete stip?

After a nice holiday we will start a new theme “People Who Help Us” which will lasts for two weeks. We will talk about where do these people work? How can they help us? What can you do to help people? Children can make some props by their own and have the role play games.
