MESSAGES

  • We are always in need of recycled materials for our models. If you have any cereal boxes, cardboard rolls, bottles, egg cartoons and plastic containers we would love to have them.
  • Could we please remind parents not to send toys to school. Now that the children are settled into their routines, they do not need comfort toys in school. We understand that children often put toys into their bags before they leave home, however it would be helpful for parents to check bags before they come and also when they return home for any extra items that may not be theirs.  Thank you for your continued support with this.

FOX AND PANTHER CLASSES

Throughout the week we have seen many interests in the unit. Some of these have been space and Pirates. To harness this we created a space ship role play and a big pirate ship! Following on from this we will look at the solar system, using the below link to support this learning. Some of our maths focus will also follow this pirate theme, using and talking about positional language (see link below).

As a whole group focus will use a range of 2D and 3D shapes to build with and create pictures and models. We will use descriptive words such as round, edge and corner when talking about shapes.

We would like to encourage children to use our creative area more this week. Choosing what to make and thinking about which materials will work best. To kick start this we will rearrange the area together giving the children full ownership over it. Hopefully you will all be coming home with wonderful models next week. Expect lots of pirate ships, rockets and telescopes!

MEERKAT AND WOLF CLASSES

In our unit we have continued to follow the children’s interest in the role play restaurant area. They will make playdough to enhance their creative and imaginative skills. We hope to see them using this to create different foods to add to their menus. Rice and lentils have been added to develop their understanding of quantities and practise tipping and pouring skills. From observing this play we will introduce the story of the Little Red Hen and in the coming weeks we will grow some wheat and work on communal food preparation and hopefully make some bread.

The children have access to shapes on a daily basis. We will be encouraging the children to make shape pictures, learning shape recognition and the features of the different shapes.

All of the children have been inspired by changing the art area into the wolf classroom. They have been very keen to work on communal projects where they have been sticking feathers, paint, lolly sticks.

In both classes we are doing an adult focus on name writing. Children are now recognising their own name labels and learning skills for correct letter formation.

As our classes have been frequently doing combined outdoor P.E we have noticed much greater interactions and wider friendship circles forming. The classes working together as a unit is enhancing the children’s engagement and encouraging them to access all of the curricular areas.
