Chinese New Year ‘Red Day’– this will take place on Thursday 26th January; the children may wear Chinese style clothing or something red on this day.
- A date for your diary; Chinese new year holidays will start from Friday 27th January and children will return to school on 6th Febuaray.
- Please remember to bring a warm hat for your child, the weather is cool and we will have time outdoors. It is always helpful to ensure all items of clothes brought into school are labelled too. Thanks in advance for this.
- To help support our air pollution systems we will keep all doors closed if the pollution is over 100. We do not want to seem unwelcome, so please know our ‘doors are always open’ for visitors, however we are trying our best to keep the children in our care safe and healthy. We thank you for your understanding and co-operation with this matter.
OUR LEARNING THEME: Chinese New Year
The children have been inspired by the story of the Great Race, and have particularly enjoyed being creative: retelling the story with the toy animals. The children have also been busy exploring measuring and pouring. We have developed this into a Chinese restaurant with special red rice!

EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN
As you can imagine we will be very busy decorating our classrooms. To get us in the spirit we will create a collaborative dragon and lion. Once it is all finished the children will dance for their peers in the other classes to the big Chinese drums!

UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD
We will continue to learn about the ways in which Chinese NewYear is celebrated. We will explore some of the traditions and customs associated with this celebration. For example children will have the opportunity to make dumplings, make wishes to hang on our wishing tree, watch a Dragon dance performed by KS2 children. We will learn a new song about the Dragon dance.
