MESSAGES

  • As the weather changes and becomes warmer, children will be using more water. Please send spare clothes so they can change into dry clothes. Please do make sure your child has a named sunhat, and when appropriate apply sun cream before coming to school.
  • The librarians are in school until 4:30 on Mondays and Tuesdays, if you want to come and borrow books, you can set up a family account.
  • We encourage the children to wear their Cubs t-shirt to school every day.  This will help to prepare them for wearing the school uniform in Reception next year. Thank you.
  • Thank you to all the adults who came to help with our Fire Station trip.  We are really grateful and hope you enjoyed it as much as the children.

FOX AND PANTHER CLASSES

The children have been interested in the Julia Donaldson book “Stick Man” and are talking about making their own stick men.  We have been collecting bark from our large log outside and would like to make some pictures using natural objects next week.  If you would like to go on a nature walk with your child and bring anything you find to school to add to our artwork we would much appreciate it! Leaves, sticks, stones, cones or any other items found in nature wold be ideal.

The children have been showing a lot of interest in making  ‘dens’ and other structure from plastic crates and tarpaulin.  We will enhance this by adding large pegs and different types of fabric.

They have also been enjoying water play and using the water wall to pour, as well as transporting water in different containers and using these to wash the bikes.  Next week we will provide soapy water, sponges and a hose for them to make their own carwash.

MEERKAT AND WOLF CLASSES

Fire fighting has been the main inspiration for imaginative and creative play this week. Next week we plan to extend this role play by creating a fire station in the outdoor area and involving the children in making fire trucks. Please watch the links below with your child to extend their thinking and understanding around the job of fire fighters and also do some counting and subtracting using fire fighters as inspiration.

With the warm weather the children love to use the outdoor area and in particular to take part in water play. We have been very fortunate to have a supportive parent volunteer put up a water wall using guttering positioned so that children can see water flow and move in different directions. This has been very popular. This week we will be investigating and exploring bubbles. If you have old socks at home you could donate so that we can make bubble pipes we would very much appreciate them. Please see the poems below that we learning as part of our literacy focus.

If you blow and blow and blow

Your bubble will grow and grow and grow

But if you blow and do not stop

Your bubble will go

POP!

I blew a bubble

It wasn’t any trouble

I blew a bubble as big as this!

And right in the middle sat an elf with a fiddle

And a bright blue hat

He fiddled with his clothes

And he scratched his nose

And he poked out his tongue

And the bubble went POP!

Continuing with our science theme we will be exploring sound and how sound can be made. We will do this by using and making musical instruments and using pots and pans and recycled materials to make sounds and learn about rhythm.
