COMMUNICATION, LANGUAGE AND LITERACY

Last week our Makaton signs of the week were drink, water, eat and sleep. This week our signs will be:  please, thank you and more. It would be fantastic if you could support us at home by teaching and practising these signs in your mother tongue.

KEY VOCABULARY

Please,  thank you, more

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

In our P.E sessions we are currently learning to ‘stop and go!’ The children  will play games that help them look at the space around them, developing their spatial awareness and being careful around others.Last week we used the parachute, bouncing balls and beanbags like popcorn in a pan and working together to make sure they didn’t spill over onto the floor. This was tricky but the children used great control to ensure that they didn’t fall. We will continue to work on these and add another game called See-Saw Pull: From a sitting position, have children pull the parachute back and forth in a cooperative see-saw motion. We will do this activity while sining “Row row row your boat”.

In swimming we will continue to pratice our kicking by splashing, singing songs, playing circles games and having fun races in the pool.  This week we will introduce the use of noodles as a basic swimming aid.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN

The children have shown great interest in using natural materials this week. They look at the different natural and man-made materials and sort them, talk about where they come from and what they feel like to touch.

If you have any old or spare natural objects made from wood, metal or plastic that you could donate, please bring them into school.  We will also look at different tewxtures and patterns of fabrics so any donations also appreciated.

KEY VOCABULARY

Metal, plastic, rubber,  wood,  glass,  transparent,  trees,  natural

UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD

The children have shown an interest in hidden treasure in the outside area, burying and finding toys, pretending to be pirates  and using  boats and ships in our water tray.  We will investigate this area of interest further next week by supporting it with rhymes and stories about Pirates. We will extend this outside by using our climbing frame as a giant pirate ship and playing pirate games.

We have continued exploring wheels in our outdoor area- having a lot of fun rolling tyres of different sizes and transporting and carrying them from place to place. If you have any old tyres or wheels at home, these can be from toy cars that have broken, bikes, scooters etc  for all age groups including adult bikes, please send them in! Much appreciated.
