MESSAGES

  • Show and Tell:  Each Friday the children can bring a toy from home to school.  This is a special time for the children because they can share something special with their teachers and classmates.  Please make sure everything brought to school is labelled with your child’s name, and do not send anything that is valuable or breakable.

LEARNING THEME

We are starting to look at traditional tales such as the Three Little Pigs, The Princess and the Pea and the Three Billy Goats Gruff.  The children will be encouraged to retell the stories using props, masks, songs and small world toys.  The teacher will help the children gain the confidence to join in with key words and phrases when reading and acting out the plot of the story.

LITERACY

The students love it when their teachers read them a story.  This week we will focus on how to treat our books properly.  The children will be encouraged to hold a book the right way up, turn one page at a time, and use their gentle hands when handling their favourite stories.  This will teach the children how to look after and take ownership of their belongings and those of the classroom.

KEY VOCABULARY

Books, stories, gentle, turn, page, cover, pictures

EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN

Our classrooms will be filled with lots of props, costumes and masks to allow the children to act out the various stories read in class.  For example, the children can build houses for The Three Little Pigs, make a bed for the Princess to sleep in, or use minature animals to climb over the troll’s bridge.  We are looking forward to hearing lots of dialogue as the students act out their favourite traditional tales.
