Week Beginning 24 April 2017

MESSAGES

  • We would like to do more junk modelling with the children, please can you send in clean, empty, small cardboard boxes for the children to work with.  Empty tissue boxes, cereal boxes or tubes from inside kitchen rolls are ideal.
  • Many of our children are really enjoying lots of water play in this warmer weather, please ensure you do send plenty of spare clothes if your child likes to play in the water.  Short sleeved clothing is much more suitable for children who enjoy water play.
  • Please do make sure your child has a named sunhat, and when appropriate apply sun cream before coming to school.
  • We are noticing that many of our children are getting too hot at school as they are still dressed for colder weather.  The children are very active at school and tend to get very hot, only one or two layers of clothing are generally needed for at school, with one warmer layer that can be added on a cooler day.

OUR LEARNING THEMES   

Junk modelling has been very popular with some of the children, we will extend that into more collaborative projects this week to encourage the children to share their ideas and work together. Some children have been busy making picnics in the home corner, so we will extend that this week with a picnic and teddy bear’s picnic theme.  We also hope to have some outdoor snack times this week. On Thursday we will have bread and jam available for the children to make themselves a simple sandwich to eat at a picnic.  Children are welcome to bring a teddy bear on Thursday for a teddy bear’s picnic. In other parts of our unit children who have been role playing around hair salons, will be extended with hats and hair accessories, this will include working with numbers and counting.

COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE

Children are constantly acquiring new language and vocabulary as they work together in this setting. In this environment the children are encouraged and supported to express themselves verbally and in other ways as they work with other children and their teachers.  This is always an ongoing focus in Cubs and every curriculum area provides opportunities for us to extend their language capabilities.

Deze week verkennen we de kunst van de Nederlandse schilder Piet Mondriaan.  We gaan aan de slag met wit,r ood, geel en blauw .  In `Geeltje en Blauwtje` mengen we kleuren en komen we  tot de ontdekking dat je met rood, geel en blauw alle  kleuren kan maken!
