LEARNING THEMES

Following our discussions about the transport we used in our holiday, different classes have taken their learning in different directions. Lots of creativity is happening across Reception. The children in Pandas have been looking at Pirate Ships and making treasure maps. The Bears have been looking at Police cars and uniforms, andthey will be exploring walkie-talkies and building up stories in the role-play. The Cheetahs have been developing their creative skills and will be making kites, following instructions to make them as well as they can! The Leopards have been making all kinds of vehicles from junk materials and now we need to make sure they are strong and as good as we can make them before asking the question: Where are they going? The Raccoons have been really enjoying roleplaying in the airport they made and have become interested in how the machines and the plane works.

LITERACY- READING, SPEAKING, LISTENING and UNDERSTANDING

We will focus on information books (non-fiction) and look at some of the ways they are different from story books. The children will be invited to label pictures, their own drawings, models or maps.

PHONICS

The children will continue to progress with their ‘Letters and Sounds’,  working with class teachers throughout the week to consolidate their phonic skills and learn new sounds as they are ready to move on. Please check your children’s phonics pack for new sounds, tricky words and common sight words to practise at home in line with their learning at school.

PSED – MAKING RELATIONSHIPS

It’s lovely to hear the children talk about their own work and what they have made, written, drawn or been playing with. We will now focus on encouraging the children to talk in positive ways about each others work, make suggestions and accept the suggestions that others make and try some of them too.
