The Reception Cubs will now be going to Zhudi Park on Wednesday this week. We are hoping for better weather than last week!
- The librarians are in school until 4:30 on Mondays and Tuesdays, if you want to come and borrow books, you can set up a family account.
- As the weather changes and becomes warmer please do make sure your child has a named sunhat, and when appropriate apply sun cream before coming to school.
LEARNING THEMES – TAKING CARE OF THE WORLD
As we will be visiting our local Park this week we will continue to think about the natural world around us. We will talk about about how we look after the world around us and why this is important. The children will explore making art using natural materials, looking at work by Andy Goldsworthy as inspiration. We hope to find lots of interesting materials to use when we are at the park!
We will carry on caring for our plants that are growing stronger everyday when we care for them daily. Children will also think about caring for animals by making vets and animal clinics in class role play areas. As a PSED focus we will get the children to think about the importance of caring for others, especially caring about how other people may be feeling.

LITERACY- SPEAKING & LISTENING
We will be talking about our trip to the park, and sequencing the key events. The children will be using verbs in the past tense to talk about what they did at the park. “I went…” “I saw…”
Park, nature, trees, pond, flowers, path, picnic, order, first, then, after that, next
The children will continue to progress with their ‘Letters and Sounds’, working with class teachers throughout the week to consolidate their phonic skills and learn new sounds as they are ready to move on. Please check your children’s phonics pack for new sounds, tricky words and common sight words to practise at home in line with their learning at school.
MATHS – NUMBER
We know that there will be so much to develop our maths learning in the park! We can’t wait to explore and investigate the different patterns that we will see, we will compare the heights of trees, lengths of sticks, shapes of leaves and use positional and directional words to talk about the route through the park, for example, along the path, over the bridge and around the pond.
Pattern, repeat, height, tall, short, along, around, next to, over, under, through
We will go back to our topic about Spring. We will first review what we have learned- recapping flowers and baby animals. Then we will talk about outdoor activites in Spring: flying kites, riding bikes and having picnics.
