Week Beginning 23 January 2017

Chinese New Year ‘Red Day’– this will take place on Thursday 26th January; the children may wear Chinese style clothing or something red on this day. In the morning there will be Drumming and a Lion Dance at the front of the school – weather permitting.

MESSAGES

  • A date for your diary; Chinese new year holidays will start from Friday 27th January and children will return to school on Monday 6th Febuaray.
  • Please ensure your child is wearing full school uniform everyday and brings a good coat, hat and gloves  to wear outside.
  • A polite reminder to all parents that photographing and videoing the children in school is not allowed.

LEARNING THEME: Chinese New Year the Year of the Rooster

We will continue to learn about the celebrations and traditions of Chinese New Year and we will be having a dance competition which the children have already started planning for!

LITERACY- SPEAKING & LISTENING & UNDERSTANDING

The children will be listening to stories about Chinese New Year and following instructions to make dumplings and tratitional Chinese crafts.

KEY VOCABULARY

PHONICS

The children will continue to progress with their ‘Letters and Sounds’ and working with class teachers throughout the week to consolidate their phonic skills and learn new sounds as they are ready to move on. Please check your child’s phonics pack for new sounds, tricky words and common sight words to practice at home in line with their learning at school.

MATHS

The children will be ordering numbers to 20. The children need to recognise the numerals, compare them and place in order from the smallest to the biggest or vice versa.

EXPRESSIVE ARTS AND DESIGN

The Cubs do have talent and each class has chosen a dance to perform for the other classes this week in a competition.  We will be Fan Dancing, Sword dancing, Ribbon dancing, Lion dancing and Tai-chi dancing.

The children will be practising their routines and exploring different ways of moving to the music and using their props. Our wonderful LAs will be judging the competition!
