Week Beginning 27 February 2017

This week is a four day week. The School is Closed on Friday 3 March and will re open as usual on Wednesday 8 March. Enjoy the Break.

MESSAGES

  • Polite reminder  in case of illness see below for our school policy regarding keeping your child at home:

-Diarrhoea (2 or more episodes in 24h that is new or unusual): Stay home for 48 hours since the last episode.

-Vomiting (more than 2 times and/or occurring with fever): Stay home for 48 hours since the last episode of vomiting .

-Vomiting (1 isolated occurrence without fever): Stay home for 24 hours since vomiting

-Fever (temperature equal to or more than 37.6 degrees celsius): Stay home 24 hours after the pupil is found fever free without intake of fever lowering medication.

LEARNING THEMES

The Reception Cubs have again taken their learning in different directions this week! We will be supporting the children to ask and answer their own questions by sharing some ‘big questions’ about ‘How things work?’ Some investigations have started already, and will be progressing through the week ahead.

LITERACY- SPEAKING LISTENING & UNDERSTANDING

The children will be using lots of questions and answers this week during their investigations. They will be working hard to describe all the things they notice during the investigations and learning new words.

PHONICS

The children will continue to progress with their ‘Letters and Sounds’,  working with class teachers throughout the week to consolidate their phonic skills and learn new sounds as they are ready to move on. Please check your children’s phonics pack for new sounds, tricky words and common sight words to practise at home in line with their learning at school. Can the children find the words and letter sounds they have been learning in their reading books and story books at home?

MATHS – NUMBER

As we will be asking questions this week we will be working with the children on some number problem solving investigations. The children will be invited to investigate how many ways they make a number using numicon, counters, cubes or other countable objects the children will be supported to group them in various ways; for example making 5 in different ways- 4 and 1, or 2 and 2 and 1.

UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD

Children are finding out about the world around them all the time and this week we will be helping them answer some of their own questions about how things work and how and why things might change. We will begin some investigations into bubbles; how can we make them? What colour they are? Can we change their colour or shape ? We will be looking at how we can change colours by experimenting with mixing them and adding different media to change the texture.
