Week Beginning 12 December 2016

Christmas party - On Tuesday 13th December the Year 1 children will have a small Christmas celebration with their teachers in class. The children can come dressed in party clothes ready for the celebration. Teachers will be organising activities in classrooms and each child will receive a ‘brainteaser’ gift from the school!

MESSAGES

  • Please note that the ECA/BISCAP programme finished last week.  The Term 2 registration programme is now open.
  • Raincoat and Cold Weather- Please ensure that your child brings a raincoat to school for the wet weather and a coat now that the tempature has dropped.
  • Swimming - Please be aware that the days are getting colder and wetter so please dress your child accordingly.  On swimming days girls may wear dark leggings and matching dark socks instead of tights to make it easier for them to get dressed.  A warm hat is also recommended.

LITERACY

This week in Literacy we will be looking at the Christmas story ‘The Snowman’. The children will sequence the main events from the story and retell it using their own words.

THEMED LEARNING

This week in Themed Learning we will be developing new art skills through Christmas related activities. The children will learn how to collage through creating Christmas pictures. They will also make a ceramic Christmas decoration, whilst developing their 3D modelling skills.

MATHS

As it is our last week of term before Christmas we will complete a review of many of the subject areas that we have covered this term. Our focus will be on; number, addition, subtraction  and shape. There will be a selection of Christmas themed problem solving activities to help consolidate the knowledge the children have acquired.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

Our coding lessons continue this week as the children begin to be more competent in their use of basic coding structures. The children are now creating codes for more than one character at a time.

PSHCE

We will contine to practise turn taking in the role play area and working together collaboratively.

PHONICS

Sharks - The Sharks have begun to recognise, read and say the Phase 5 phonics sounds. Although the initial few sounds appear quite simple the focus will be on recognise the rule when spelling words. This following few weeks’ sounds are; ou, oy, ir, ue and aw.

Puffer Fish - This week the Puffer Fish group will be practising all of the previous sounds, learnt throughout this term. They will also be practising how to read, write and spell the tricky words which we have been learning.

Starfish - This week Starfish will learn alternative pronunciations for ‘er’ and ‘ch’ and to read and spell polysyllabic words such as servant, bigger, machine and schooling. We will also practise reading and spelling common words.

Stingrays - This week the Starfish phonics group will continue to be learning set 7 of the Phase 3 sounds:  y  z,  zz and qu. They will practise reading and writing words featuring these sounds, as well as this, they will be learning to read the tricky words: we, me, be, she, he.

Jellyfish - This week the Jellyfish phonics group will continue to review all Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds learnt to date. They will practise reading and writing words featuring these sounds, paying particular attention to the consonant clusters and vowel digraphs. They will also practise reading high frequency words. 

Octopus - This week Octopus will be revising the new sounds learnt last week ‘oo’ (long) and ‘oo’ (short). We will also be introducing ‘ar’ (card) and ‘or’ (fork). Children will be finding common words with this spelling pattern.

Deze week creëren we een wintersprookje in de Nederlandse klas.  We maken tableau vivants bij het het wintersprookje van Harmen van Straaten `Ik wil voor altijd bij je  zijn`.

We ronden 2016 af met een terugblik naar de  hoogtepunten van de voorbije  maanden en maken een mooie  wenskaart.

De letter van de week is de `j`van jaar!

Wij wensen alle kinderen prettige  feestdagen en een welverdiende vakantie  toe.  Tot in 2017!
