Week Beginning 14 November 2016

School holiday- Please note that school will be closed to pupils on Monday 14 November and Tuesday 15 November. 

MESSAGES

  • Raincoat -Please ensure that your child brings a raincoat to school for the wet weather.
  • Swimming Cap – now the weather is getting colder please remember to send a swimming cap in with your child on their swimming day.

LITERACY

This week we will continue to read about stories from other cultures using the book ‘One World Together.’ Children will be listening and discussing a wide range of stories from their pervious experiences, practise composing a sentence orally before writing it and discussing what they have written.

MATHS

Our focus in Maths this week is fractions. We will begin by simply looking at halves and quarters of specific shapes. We will extend this further by looking at fractions of amounts of objects and numbers. This mathematical area links perfectly to our country of focus, Italy, where the children can use pizzas to support their understanding of finding fractions of a shape.

THEMED LEARNING

This week in Themed lessons Barnaby Bear will travel to Italy.  The children will learn to place Italy on a map, as well as name famous landmarks and explore the cities that can be found.  The children will then work with their peers to create information posters about Italy, to share with others.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

Our coding lessons continue this week as the children begin to be more competent in their use of basic coding structures. The children are now creating codes for more than one character at a time.

PSHCE

We will be talking about and practise taking turns during roleplay time and within the classroom.

PHONICS

Puffer Fish - This week the Puffer Fish phonics group will be consolidating their knowledge of the sounds- g and o. They will be combining them with previous sounds to make new words such as got and pot. They will also be learning the new sounds c and k. They will practise reading and writing the words cat, kit and cab. They will also be learning to blend and read the high frequency words- not and can.

Jellyfish - This week the Jellyfish phonics group will review all Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds learnt to date. They will practise reading and writing words featuring these sounds, paying particular attention to the consonant clusters and vowel digraphs.They will also practise reading high frequency words.  

 Starfish - This week Starfish will continue to learn alternative pronunciations for ‘i’ and ‘o’ and reading and spelling polysyllabic words. Some children will also learn what happens to the meaning of a verb when they add the ‘ing’ suffix.

Octopus - This week the Octopus phonics group will review all Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds learnt to date. They will practise reading and writing words featuring these sounds, paying particular attention to the consonant clusters and vowel digraphs.They will also practise reading high frequency words.
