MESSAGES

  • Learning Showcase - Tuesday 6 June 8.50am – 9.45 am; The students of Year 1 would like to invite you to share their learning about our theme ‘Plants and Insects’. This is an opportunity to engage with the children about their learning and to participate in activities together.
  • Healthy Snacks - Please ensure that your child’s daily snack is a healthy one
  • Warm Weather - Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.
  • Wanted - Jumble items for Tanzania Table at the Garden Party

We are a group of Y.8 & 9 students who are busy fundraising for the projects we will support in November when we travel to Tanzania on our amazing service project. We are looking for your help for contributions of second-hand toys, books and any other small unwanted household items for our Jumble Table at the Summer Garden Party. If you are leaving China or just having a Spring clean, please consider donating your unwanted items to our Tanzania Jumble Table. Please send them in to either the Primary or Secondary reception desks.

LITERACY

This week in Literacy we will be learning about diaries. The children will learn what a diary is and about the features of a diary text. They will learn about different tenses and practise recounting and writing events in the past tense. By the end of the week, they will write their own diary in the past tense.

MATHS

This week in Maths we will be learning about money, different coins and their values. We will be looking to build on the children’s previous knowledge and understanding of UK coin values. Much of last week was focussed on simple subtraction based word problems, we will incorporate worded money problems to develop them further.

PHONICS

Octopus

This week we will begin to focus on reading, witing and using the phase 3 HFWs. We will practise building sentences using HFWs and continue to practise applying our skills using phase 3 sounds. 

Sharks

This week we will begin a series of weeks on ‘alternative pronunciation’. There are a number of English letters that have different sounds within different words. Our starting examples will be vowel sounds; a, e, i, o and u. An example of alternative pronunciation would be the i sound in tin and find.

Puffer Fish

This week the Puffer Fish phonics group will be learning the new sounds y, qu, and x. We will also be learning how to read and spell the high frequency words we, me, he, she and be.

Starfish

This week the children will learn alternative spellings for ‘air’. They will learn that the sound ‘air’ can also be spelt as ‘ere’, ‘ear’ and ‘are’. We will practise reading and spelling words with this sound such as: everywhere, there, wearing, tearing, glare, care.

Stingrays 

This week Stingrays will be beginning phase 4. During this phase we will be using our knowledge of all of the 44 graphemes from phase 2 and 3 to read CVC word. We will be extending CVC words to CVCC such as bent, tent, damp and pant. We will also learning to read and spell the tricky words said and so.

Jellyfish

This week the Jelly Fish group will learn to apply the sounds oe, au, ey, a-e. They will be blending them together with other sounds when reading and spelling words like: tomatoes, heroes, goes, August, author, Paul , haunt, donkey, turkey and money. They will also be learning how to read and spell the tricky words Mr, Mrs, don’t,  by, some and come.

THEMED LEARNING

This week in our Themed Learning we will be continuing to make their insect art pieces. They will begin to construct their final piece in the style of Eric Carle, in preparation for their art showcase. Additionally, the children will be looking at the different stages of butterflies life cycle, with its transition from caterpillar to butterfly.

PSHCE

This week we will continue to focusing on friendships and helping our friends to be happy. We will play a variety of different team building games and will practise sharing and taking turns.

COMPUTING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

Over the coming weeks the children will focus on developing Microsoft Office skills; specifically with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint. The children will develop typing skills and key skills in finding and using; text boxes, bold text, italics, changing fonts and font colours. All of which will be developed under our topic theme of Plants and Insects.

DUTCH

Naar aanleiding van ons bezoek aan de expositie van Peter Riezebos aanstaande dinsdag verdiepen we ons deze week in het reilen en zeilen in een museum. Aan de hand van het boek `Willewete: het museum` komen we te weten wie er allemaal werken en vooral dat je heel voorzichtig moet zijn met kunst!  Deze week beginnen we ook met de opstart van onze eigen tentoonstelling. We verzamelen onze kunstwerken en stallen ze uit voor het grote publiek.   Houd de Nederlandse gang in de gaten de komende weken!
