MESSAGES

  • World Water Day 22 March – Dress up in blue or water themed

  • Friday 24 March - Fairy Tale dress up day
  • Raincoat and Wet Weather- Please ensure that your child brings a raincoat to school for the wet weather.
  • Swimming - Please be aware that the days are sometimes still cold and wet so please dress your child accordingly.  On swimming days girls may wear dark leggings and matching dark socks instead of tights to make it easier for them to get dressed.  A warm hat is also recommended.

LITERACY

During this week, the children will continue their journey into fairytales by looking at the story of Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. They will be using their performing skills to create freeze-frames which will act as prompts to retell and adapt the story. They will also be using their previous knowledge of instructions to help create a recipe for jam sandwiches for the Fairytale Ball!

MATHS

In Maths this week the children will learn to recognise and name common 2D and 3D shapes by identifying features such number and length of sides.  They will be learning new vocabulary to describe 3D shapes and also learn to solve problems.

Shape, 2D, 3D, flat, solid, face, edge, corner, vertices, solve, circle, triangle, rectangle, square, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, cube, cuboid, pyramid, sphere etc. 

PHONICS

Sharks

Over the next few weeks Sharks will be learning about split digraphs. A digraph is two letters together which make one sound. When a digraph is split by a constant it becomes a split digraph e.g. i-e – like. The split digraphs we will be learning to read and spell in context are; a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e and u-e.

Puffer Fish

This week the Puffer Fish group will be continuing to practise the sounds h and b. They will learn how to say the sounds and read them when they are blended with other sounds to make words. We will focus on the words- bit, bed, bad, hat, hop, hip and hill.

Starfish

This week Starfish will focus on spelling High Frequency Words. The children will participate in different spelling activities to help them learnt their focus words.

Stingrays

This week Stingrays will continue learning new vowel graphemes within phase 3. We will be looking at or and ur. We will be applying these sounds to help sound out and spell new words such as fork, cord, burn and curl whilst practicing combination words such as harsh, thing and teeth.

Jellyfish

This week the Jellyfish phonics group will continue to work through Phase 4 where they will practise the recognition and recall of Phase 2 and 3 graphemes.  They will learn and practise the reading and spelling of ccvcc words using these sounds e.g. trust, spend, glint, tramp, grunt, crept, crunch, drench, shrink etc.  Children will also be taught how to read the tricky words were, there, little and one, and how to spell the tricky words: they, all, are and children. 

Octopus

This week, Octopus are going to recap on the oo, ar and or sounds. They will practise applying the sounds and explore words with these spelling patterns. They will be learning to spell words such as book, look, took, food, mood, bark, dark and spark.

THEMED LEARNING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

Over the coming weeks our coding lessons will continue to focus on having an increased number of moveable objects, each with specific directions linked to the pressing of keys or swiping of the screen. As we start to enter our literacy focus of traditional tales the children will create apps based on the fairy tale theme.

Children will learn the colours  紫色 zi se/purple;粉红色 fen hong se/pink;黑色 hei se/black;白色 bai se/white. They will learn to describe the fruits and body parts with the new words.

De kinderen van year 1 ontvangen deze week de Nederlandse schrijfster Victoria Farkas.   Zij zal op dinsdag en woensdag samen met hun een verhaal bedenken.  In het kader van het thema `beroepen`bedenken ook wij enkele vragen voor Victoria Farkas.    Zit een schrijver hele dagen voor de computer?
