MESSAGES

  • Learning Showcase - Tuesday 6 June 8.50am – 9.45 am; The students of Year 1 would like to invite you to share their learning about our theme ‘Plants and Insects’. This is an opportunity to engage with the children about their learning and to participate in activities together.
  • Healthy Snacks - Please ensure that your child’s daily snack is a healthy one.
  • Warm Weather - Now the weather is getting warmer, please could you encourage your child to bring in a hat and also a water bottle so that they remain well hydrated during the day.
  • Wanted - Jumble items for Tanzania Table at the Garden Party - We are a group of Y.8 & 9 students who are busy fundraising for the projects we will support in November when we travel to Tanzania on our amazing service project. We are looking for your help for contributions of second-hand toys, books and any other small unwanted household items for our Jumble Table at the Summer Garden Party. If you are leaving China or just having a Spring clean, please consider donating your unwanted items to our Tanzania Jumble Table. LITERACY

This week in Literacy we will continue to learn about diaries. The children will focus on writing dairies that are interesting and include their feelings and reactions to certain things that have happened that day.

MATHS

This week we will turn our focus to multiplication and problem solving. In previous weeks we have focused on counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. We will begin to focus on more discreet understanding of these as ‘times tables’. We want the children to become more familiar with the concept of multiplication and increase their understanding and recall.

THEMED LEARNING

This week the children are learning 3D modelling skills. They will learn how to knead, roll and join clay. After practising and developing these techniques, the children will apply these skills to make their very own clay snails.

PHONICS

Octopus

This week we will continue to focus on reading, witing and using the phase 3 HFWs. We will practise building sentences using HFWs and continue to practise applying our skills using phase 3 sounds. 

Sharks

This week we will begin a series of weeks on ‘alternative pronunciation’. There are a number of English letters that have different sounds within different words. Our starting examples will be vowel sounds; a, e, i, o and u. An example of alternative pronunciation would be the i sound in tin and find.

Puffer Fish

This week the Puffer Fish phonics group will be learning the new sounds sh and th. We will also be learning how to read and spell the high frequency words and, no, are, see.

Starfish

This week the children will learn alternative spellings for ‘or’. They will learn that the sound ‘or’ can also be spelt as ‘al’, ‘our’ and ‘augh’. We will practise reading and spelling words with this sound such as: always, talking, fourteen, your, taught, caught, naughty. We will also learn to spell the High Frequency Words: asked, know, can’t and ran.

Stingrays 

This week Stingrays will be continuing to work on reading CVCC words. We will be practising using our blending skills for CC sounds like ft, nk, sk, and lf. As well this we are continuing to learn our tricky words such as said, like, come and some.

Jellyfish

This week the Jelly Fish group will learn alternative pronunciations for c and g. They will be blending them together with other sounds when reading and spelling words like:  nice, advice, cycle, rice and icy. They will also be learning how to read and spell the tricky words out, made, come, who and because.

PSHCE

This week we will continue to focusing on friendships and helping our friends to be happy. We will play a variety of different team building games and will practise sharing and taking turns.

COMPUTING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

Over the coming weeks the children will focus on developing Microsoft Office skills; specifically Microsoft Word and Microsoft Powerpoint. The children will develop typing skills and key skills in finding and using; text boxes, bold text, italics, changing fonts and font colours. All of which will be developed under our topic theme of Plants and Insects.

DUTCH

De kinderen van KS1 leggen deze week de laatste hand aan het opzetten van onze kunsttentoonstelling.  We ontwerpen een uitnodiging, maken kaartjes  bij de kunstwerken en worden volleerde museumgidsen.  Zet de opening op donderdag 25 mei alvast in uw agenda!  Meer info volgt in de nieuwsbrief.
