Week Beginning 27 March 2017

Thank you to all the parents who have volunteered to share delicious food from their home country!  We (the children and certainly the teachers) are greatly looking forward to the International Week Food Fair on Tuesday 28 March.

MESSAGES

  •  We will be celebrating International Week through song! Please join us for International singing in the Primary School playground at 8.25am on Wednesday  29 March.
  • Our annual International Week Parade will be  on Friday 31 March.  The children can come to school dressed to represent a country of their choice,  face paints and flags are warmly encouraged! We hope that you can join us, the parade will start at 9am and we would love to see you there.
  • On Wednesday March 29th Neil Griffiths, a well-known children’s book author will be visiting the school to work with KS1 and Early Years. He will be retelling his stories and encouraging the children to participate in an interactive presentation.
  • Please be aware that the ECA/ BISCAP/Swimming programmes have now finished.  The Term 3 programme will begin on Monday 17 April and run until Thursday 16 June.
  • Raincoat and Cold Weather- Please ensure that your child brings a raincoat to school for the wet weather and a coat.
  • Swimming - Please be aware that the days are sometimes still cold and wet so please dress your child accordingly.  On swimming days girls may wear dark leggings and matching dark socks instead of tights to make it easier for them to get dressed.  A warm hat is also recommended.

LITERACY

This week’s Literacy lessons will be linked to International Week. Children will be researching a country of their choice. They will then use the facts which they have found out, to write their own Non-Fiction texts. They will focus on the layout and features of a Non-Fiction text.

MATHS

This weeks’s Maths lesson will be focusing on using british money. The children will be revisiting the value of the different coins and notes and then will be using their addition and subtraction skill to solve a range of problems.

PHONICS

Puffer Fish

This week the Puffer Fish phonics group will focus on the sounds- g and j. They will practise pronouncing the sounds and blending them with other letters/sounds to make new words. These words include jet, jam, jump, got and get. We will also focus on the tricky word go.

Starfish

This week Starfish will be learning alternative pronounciations for e and ey. They will practise reading and spelling polysyllabic words such as: bedroom, recent, obeyed, surveying, greyish.  The children  will also practise spelling their set of High Frequency Words.

Stingrays

This week Starfish will be learning the digraphs ur, ow and oi. They will practice reading and spelling polysyllabic words such as: fur, burn, turn, bow, owl, towel, boil and soil.  The children  will also practise spelling their set of High Frequency Words.

Jellyfish

In Phonics this week the Jellyfish group will practise the recognition and recall of Phase 2 and 3 graphemes.  They will use these sounds to read and spell two-syllable words.  They will also practise reading the tricky words do, when, out, what, it’s and help; and how to spell spelling the tricky words my and her.  

THEMED LEARNING

To celebrate International Week, each year group will be answering the question ‘What does International mean?’. The children will lead their learning and present to the class what they have found out at the end of the week.

COMPUTING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

Over the coming weeks our coding lessons will continue to focus on having an increased number of moveable objects, each with specific directions linked to the pressing of keys or swiping of the screen. As we start to enter our literacy focus of traditional tales the children will create apps based on the fairy tale theme.

De kinderen van year 1 buigen zich deze week over het vak van mode-ontwerpster.  Wat moet een ontwerpster kunnen?  We bekijken verschillende stofjes en patronen om onze eigen creaties te ontwerpen en te labelen.
