MESSAGES

  • Raincoat and Cold Weather- Please ensure that your child brings a raincoat to school for the wet weather and a coat now that the tempature has dropped.
  • Swimming - Please be aware that the days are getting colder and wetter so please dress your child accordingly.  On swimming days girls may wear dark leggings and matching dark socks instead of tights to make it easier for them to get dressed.  A warm hat is also recommended.

LITERACY

During Literacy this week, we will be continuing to learn about different genres. We will then focus on the genre of letter writing. Children will be learning key vocabulary that is used when writing a letter and looking at the different formats and layouts of letters. Children will then use adjectives when writing a letter to Santa. We will also be learning about using capital letters when writing names of people and places.

THEMED LEARNING

The children will continue to learn about the past and present day through toys this week in Themed Learning. They will share the games and toys that they found out about from their homework. They will then look at The Toy Shop by Peter Blake (1962) and consider how toy shop windows might look today and in the future. The children will also find out how the teddy bear got its name and how teddies have changed through time.

MATHS

During this week we will continue to practise our calculation skills. We will be  adding and subtract one-digit and two-digit numbers to 10/20, including zero and using a number line.

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING  AND  DIGITAL LITERACY

Our coding lessons continue this week as the children begin to be more competent in their use of basic coding structures. The children are now creating codes for more than one character at a time.

We will contine to practise turn taking in the role play area and working together collaboratively.

PHONICS

Puffer Fish - This week the Puffer Fish phonics group will be consolidating their knowledge of the sounds-ck, u, c and r. They will then be learning the new sounds h, b, f and ff. They will be combining them with previous sounds to make new words such as bat, fan, fun and off. They will also be learning to blend and read the high frequency words- no, go, to and the.

Jellyfish - This week the Jellyfish phonics group will review all Phase 2 and Phase 3 sounds learnt to date. They will practise reading and writing words featuring these sounds, paying particular attention to the consonant clusters and vowel digraphs.They will also practise reading high frequency words.  

Starfish - This week Starfish will learn alternative pronunciations for ‘ie’ and ‘ea’ and to read and spell polysyllabic words such as denied, relief, feather and reading. Some children will also continue to learn about the suffix –er e.g. reader, believer, eater.

Stingrays - This week Stingrays will begin Phase 3 after consolidating their previous sounds over the last week. The will be learning the sounds of the letters J, V, W and X and learning to spell CVC and CVCC word that contain them. They will be practicing the spellings of words such as:  jet, jam, fox, six, will, win, van and vat.  They will also be learning to blend and read the high frequency words- off, can, had, back.

Sharks - The Sharks have begun to recognise, read and say the Phase 5 phonics sounds. Although the initial few sounds appear quite simple the focus will be on recognise the rule when spelling words. This following few weeks’ sounds are; ou, oy, ir, ue and aw.

De Sint vertrekt terug naar Spanje maar niet getreurd, het volgende feest wacht al om de hoek.

We overlopen de belangrijkste feesten tijdens het jaar en sorteren ze op de jaarkalender.  Wanneer is het jouw verjaardag?  Is het nu bijna Kerst?

We helpen de Sint met inpakken en sorteren alle korte en lange klanken die we de voorbije maanden geleerd hebben in de juiste zak.

Wegens de verjaardag van de Goedheiligman is er deze week geen huiswerk!
