Over the next few weeks we will be learning about split digraphs. A digraph is two letters together which make one sound. When a digraph is split by a constant it becomes a split digraph e.g. i-e – like. The split digraphs we will be learning to read and spell in context are; a-e, e-e, i-e, o-e and u-e.

Puffer Fish

This week the Puffer Fish group will be continuing to practising the sounds s, a, t, e, i, p, n. They will learn how to say the sounds and read them when they are blended with other sounds to make words. We will focus on the words- sat, tip, pen, pin, at, tap.

We will be applying these sounds to help sound out and spell new words such as boat, roof and book whilst continuing to practice and identify our vowel sounds (a,e,i,o and u). We will also be learning how to spell tricky words such as was, all, they and my.

Jellyfish

This week the Jellyfish phonics group will continue to work through Phase 4 where they will practise the recognition and recall of Phase 2 and 3 graphemes.  They will learn and practise the reading and spelling of ccvcc words using these sounds e.g. stomp, blink, clamp, bricks, drink, crisp etc.  Children will also practise all tricky words learnt so far.
